Graham Brothwood Notary Public About Me

Hello, I’m Graham…

I am a qualified Notary Public based just outside Malmesbury (North Wiltshire).

I have been a solicitor in private practice since 1987, having qualified in the City of London. From 2004 I was in partnership at the international law firm, DAC Beachcroft LLP, and ran the firm’s Bristol office real estate team of 60 people for 10 years.

More recently, I undertook an additional qualification at University College London to become a Notary Public.  In April 2022, I retired from private practice as a solicitor to focus entirely on being a Notary Public.

Having been in the law for over 35 years, I pride myself on providing a professional and practical service for both businesses and individuals. During my extensive time in the legal world, I have dealt with many situations for a wide variety of clients. My aim is to provide solutions to clients’ problems quickly and at a reasonable price.

I am one of approximately 770 notaries practising in England and Wales and am appointed as a Notary Public, and also regulated, by the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Notary Services…

The chances are that you are looking at this website because you have recently been advised to get a document “notarised”, most likely from a lawyer (or other organisation, such as a bank or pension provider) based abroad. You may be involved as a private individual, dealing with a family matter in a foreign country; or it may be a new business venture overseas where documents required for the venture need to be authenticated by a Notary Public in England and Wales.

For many people this process is likely to be a complete unknown and possibly the first time that you need the help of a Notary Public. Whilst, as a Notary Public, I do not provide legal advice or representation, what I can do for you is arrange for the authentication of documents and the witnessing of signatures on documents that are specifically for use abroad.  I can also help with obtaining an Apostille and/or Legalisation at the relevant embassy or consulate.

There are many different notarial services that a Notary in England and Wales can provide.   By selecting one of the buttons below you will find some examples of how I can help you.

How can I help…

What is a Notary Public?

A Notary is a member of the oldest legal profession in the United Kingdom. Notaries are appointed by the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury and are subject to regulation by the Master of the Faculty Office.

All Notaries must be fully insured and maintain fidelity insurance cover for the protection of their clients and the public. They must comply with stringent practice rules and rules relating to conduct and discipline, which are similar to the rules that affect Solicitors.

I am also a member of The Notaries Society. Their website contains detailed information about this oldest branch of the legal profession in the United Kingdom and how notaries can help you with legally certifying documents for use abroad.
